What to do if your toilet leaks from the base or inlet pipe

Leaks near the base of the cistern or inlet pipe are typically caused by loose joints or incorrect fitting of seals. If you are experiencing water dripping from the pipe joints, damp patches on the floor around the WC or water running down the side of the cistern, the following steps will help to fix the issue:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Dry the area to locate the exact source of the leak.
  3. Check the connection between the inlet valve and flexible hose — retighten gently if loose.
  4. Replace any washers that appear brittle or damaged.
  5. Check the large donut washer under the cistern and refit/seal if necessary.
  6. Turn water back on and observe for leaks.
